ORION Final event

Turning waste into energy New opportunities for sustainable biogas production

Caldes de Montbui
29th July 2015, 10.00 am - 17.00 pm

About 130 milion tonnes of bio-waste are produced in Europe every year. These wet biomass waste streams are abundantly available while their disposal and recycling becomes increasingly difficult as energy efficient, environmentally sound and economically viable processes hardly exist. The existing treatment methods for these streams are mainly incineration or landfilling. A small amount is composted, digested anaerobically or used as animal fodder. In this regard, innovative solutions for wet biomass valorisation can open major opportunities to SME and local communities.

ORION is the first anaerobic digestion machine at SME scale combining effectiveness for a large range of organic wastes, reduced capital and operating costs. Thanks to advanced control tools and sensors it has an optimum reliability. The impact of nanostructured surfaces on bacterial growth has been deeply studied in order to increase waste throughput in the digester.

This event has been organized in order to to open a dialogue between technology developers and stakeholders working in the agro-food, aquaculture, HORECA sectors as well as policy makers and local authorities dealing with wet biomass waste management.
